Zebrafish might be the future of studying neuroactive compounds

Fully understanding the mechanisms of action of neuroactive compounds is difficult due to their complexity and polypharmacology. Making single-target drug discovery nearly impossible.

Phenotypic screening was one of the solutions brought by science. However, this method faced historical limitations until recently.

A group of researchers from the University of California found a way to rapidly profile thousands of compounds using larval zebrafish, which share genetics and CNS anatomy with humans, making complex behavioral readouts possible.

Breaking Language Barriers with Francesco De Luca

As Terence McKenna and others once said: ‘Everyone can learn about entheogens from books.’

Unfortunately, sometimes, we can’t read them due to language barriers.

For this reason, we spoke to Francesco De Luca, a poet and translator of the McKenna brother’s golden literary pieces.

Join us to learn more about the importance of literature, his stance on the world as a McKennian, younger generations losing touch with literature, how the world is becoming weird, and Terence McKenna’s philosophies.

Through the Looking Glass with Laguna Meth

This week, we talked with Michael from Laguna Meth.

After his first experience with a Bart Simpson tab, his way of viewing the world switched, and so did his stance on these compounds.

What he thought were substances for the weak changed his life by allowing him to see the facade forced into his mind by the media and schools since birth and pursue something more powerful.

Music.

A horror story of the mind

For the past year, I’ve been covering the stories of people in this realm about how they entered the community and what led them to encounter these compounds. However, I’ve never told my story of how these compounds entered my life.

I found this Halloween to be something fitting, considering this story isn’t what you’d read to your kids at night despite the happy ending. In hopes of switching some opinions in regard to what the human mind can bring to you and how sometimes these compounds can be an escape from what we believe to be a living hell.

5-MeO-DMT life-changing experiences might have been debunked!

What we thought to be a toad life-changing trip might be more than that, a new study claims!

For quite some time, the psychonaut community has focused on inducing intense mystical experiences with Bufo Alvarius (Incilius Alvarius), capable of life-changing experiences and altering how we perceive life.

However, new research proves that something else is happening to our brains while such experiences occur within our minds!

The FELT presence of immediate experience with The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo and UnTerry McCanny

Join us this week to read a wonderful conversation with Terence McKenna.

“Uh, it’s actually UnTerry McCanny and The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo.”

We spoke about art, philosophy, puppetry, teaching about hallucinogens humorously, the influence of Terence McKenna in his life, McKenna Monday at Psychedelic Assembly’s library in Manhattan (P.S. They have pizza), the importance of philosophy in the psychedelic space, and what UnTerry McCanny would ask Terence if they could communicate. We also discussed the possibility of bringing new puppets to life!

We found that Michaelangelo is currently accepting donations for a William Burroughs puppet! (It’s just a secret between us, but I must say that the impersonation is immaculate!)

Entheogen healing or Peak experience? Both!

Depending on how we perceive the world and our beliefs, entheogens can be potential tools to aid in the treatment of mental illness, or compounds that help us explore ourselves, and to some, entheogens are tools to explore the realms of the spiritual world.

Typically, these two insights rarely mix as the psychotomimetic community on the scientific and spiritual tend to split.

However, this might be changing soon!

The Beckley Foundation, alongside the Imperial College of London, the University of Sussex, the University of Oxford, and the University of California, brought us an interesting study that may connect how spiritual transcendent experiences, or ‘peak experiences’ in the psychonaut world, may predict positive results in mental health outcomes in therapy, such as reductions in depression and anxiety, and also reduced craving in substance abuse disorders.
