What is 7-OH, and should it be scheduled?

DEA wants to place 7-OH in schedule 1. With this, many people are left with the question: What is 7-OH?
The compound is naturally occurring in one of the most well-known plant species in Thailand, which has been culturally used for hundreds of years as a traditional remedy and mild stimulant. Due to its unique pharmacology and analgesic properties, researchers believe in its clinical potential to be a tool or a pathway to find treatments to help various conditions such as chronic and intractable pain syndromes, autoimmune and inflammatory pathologies.
Unfortunately, schedule 1 completely neglects the potential in the clinical setting and the possibility of researchers working with the compound, and will eventually delay research to find derivatives of 7-OH that could be beneficial clinical tools.
