The new religion of Psilomethoxin

War veterans are easily prone to mental illnesses, specifically PTSD, resulting in approximately 44 suicides per day. Owned veterans, to aid veterans the Church of Psilomethoxin was created.

At first, the church of Psilomethoxin aimed to aid veterans by using 5-MeO-DMT, this objective was sabotaged by the difficulty of traveling patients to perform the treatment where the substance is legal. To fix this issue, a legal oral form of 5-MeO-DMT was needed.

The idea of Psilomethoxin (4-HO-5-MeO-DMT) was based on Alexander Shulgin’s mention of an interesting experience by the mycologist Jochen Gartz, who grew Psilocybin species in solid media containing tryptamines alien to the mushroom, the enzymes responsible for the 4-Hydroxy group in psilocybin are indifferent to the compound, this being said depending on what Gartz would grow the species on, the mushroom would 4-hydroxylate it, thus achieving results such as 4-HO-DIPT and 4-HO-DPT.

According to the research provided by Janis Fricke, Felix Blei, Dirk Hoffmeister, the 4-hydroxylase of L-tryptophan to psilocybin would occur due to an enzyme named by the authors as psiH, hence, we can deduct that this enzyme would be responsible for the 4-hydroxylase of foreign tryptamines that are being fed to the mycelium during the fruiting process, this would bring various hypothesis to the biosynthesis table.

By following these breadcrumbs, the needed orally active form of 5-MeO-DMT, 4-HO-5-MeO-DMT, was successfully created by the Church of Psilomethoxin in 2021. However, just like every new compound, uncertainties remain.

Issues such as the uncontrolled popularization of a compound, which have historically happened with substances that had previous clinical use, such as LSD, MDMA, and Cocaine, that lost their credibility due to their popularization.

As a response to this, the term Church was implemented, similar to the use of Peyote in the NAC, the substance would be protected by solemnly enabling the users to consume Psilomethoxin in a holistic/ritualistic way, and banning those who consumed the compound recreationally or as a party drug, completely removing them from their subscription to the website.

Another uncertainty would be the lack of information in the scientific literature about this compound, being the only official report a paper published by Marc Julia’s group at the Pasteur Institute in 1965 reporting the synthesis and physical properties of 4-HO-5-MeO-DMT but no history of consumption or test of the ingestion of the substance.

“The synthesis is quite a frightening thing. It starts with ortho-vanillin and takes approximately 10 steps to get to the 4,5-HO-MeO-DMT. I’m not surprised that no one has pursued the compound.”

– Alexander Shulgin

As there is no history of human consumption, there is no established dosing of Psilomethoxin, considering the small dosage needed for 5-MeO-DMT to be the agent of life-changing experiments and the noticeable resemblance to the serotonergic neurotoxin 4,5-dihydroxytryptamine, the approach to this compound should be done very consciously and carefully.

This approach was met by the owners of the Church of Psilomethoxin, by approaching the compound in a Shulginean way starting by taking a tenth of a gram, and gradually raising the dosage until the desired effect depending on the patient.

“I started by taking 10th of a gram, third of a gram, half gram and we went from there.”

-Ian Benuois head of The Church of Psilomethoxin

The rituals of the Church of Psilomethoxin are usually conducted by giving micro doses to their patients and increasing the dosage depending on the experience of the user, so far the highest dosage reported is 1.5grams reported by one of the owners, and 3grams reported on female a patient suffering from military sexual trauma

Considering these factors in the present day one can only question itself:

“What will be the next step for Psilomethoxin?”

“Will the compound become the next tool to ameliorate mental illness or will further data discover that the compound has more similarities to the neurotoxin than their chemical structure?”

According to chemists and considering the potency of 4,5-dihydroxytryptamine, it’s advisable to proceed carefully with this compound, thus, research should be made before considering consuming Psilomethoxin.
